Rudesheim Am Rhein w. Mom!

Rudesheim Am Rhein w. Mom!

Mom and I chose Rudesheim, right on the Rhine River Valley for our second day trip! The adventure began as we neared the Rhine River the GPS said "take a left and board the ferry". I turned to Mom and asked "Did she just say 'take a left and BOARD THE FERRY?!?!?" I had no idea there wasn't a bridge for miles in either direction. So after a momentary freak out we took a left and drove right onto the ferry! Five Euro later and some confusion over whether or not we were supposed to stay in the car or get out, we were floating across the Rhine with Miss Pepper!

On the other side of the river we docked and arrived at Rudesheim am Rhein. Ready to explore we first took off on the cable car that lifts you up above the vineyards that are the wine country surrounding Rudesheim. The cable car drops you off at the top of this great hill overlooking the Rhine, host to the Niederwalddenkmal monument which commemorates the unification of Germany. We enjoyed a coffee and cherry crumble cake before wandering around to enjoy the view and check out the monument.

After we made it back down into Rudesheim we conveniently stumbled upon one of my favorite German desserts: a chimney cake! They wrap the dough into a cylinder and coat it with cinnamon sugar or other toppings. It comes hot- soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. YUM!

After wandering around town for a bit we hopped on a river cruise to see more of the Rhine and the castles that dot its shoreline.

We capped off the day with yummy Schnitzel for dinner at a cozy little restaurant in town. Tomorrow Michael would come home and we were off to Rothenburg for the weekend!
